BURNING LANTERN: A UNIQUE MUSIC EVENT IN A SPECTACULAR SETTING
August 12 2017 sees a brand new music event for Wales when the Cardiff based Orchard Media and Events Group, current UK Regional Promoter of the Year, hosts Burning Lantern, a family country fayre in St Fagans National History Museum, the national focal point for the celebration of Welsh culture, with international performers Tom Odell, Jack Savoretti and more (tickets from 9am December 14: 02920 230 130; ticketmaster.co.uk; ticketlineuk.com).
St Fagans National History Museum is one of Europe’s leading open-air museums, a heritage attraction visited by millions that is a rite of passage for Welsh youngsters eager to discover their cultural history down the ages amongst 100 acres of beautiful parkland. Burning Lantern will light up the grounds with a main stage featuring live music through the day, with street food and craft ales, amusements and entertainment creating a family fayre in one of Wales’ leading tourist attractions.
The musical line-up includes:
Renowned for his electrifying, charismatic stage performances, singer songwriter Tom Odell won the BRITs Critics' Choice Award in 2013 and followed that with an Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year the following year. His debut studio album, Long Way Down went Platinum, along with his best known single, Another Love. His second studio album, Wrong Crowd, was released in June and charted at Number 2. Tom was discovered by Lily Allen, the singer and founder of his record label In The Name Of, who has compared Tom’s on stage energy to that of David Bowie, witnessed this summer at Glastonbury and V Festival and across the UK and Europe.
Singer Jack Savoretti has had two UK Top 10 albums, including Written In Scars in 2015, became a familiar face on TV, and enjoyed a sold-out headline worldwide tour, including UK dates in November.
Orchard was recently awarded UK Regional Promoter of the Year for the second time in the Live Music Business Awards. Director Pablo Janczur said: “St Fagans is such a Welsh national treasure that has played a significant role over the years in bringing Welsh history to life in a lovely setting for generations of families. We are bringing our musical expertise to produce a real family treat with some major international talent in this unique venue, with mainstream, big name acts on stage, and plenty to keep youngsters occupied in the buildings and features around the parkland. If it’s the success we hope for, we’ll look to make the fayre an annual event in this amazing location.”
The main stage will be set up in a field in the heart of the Museum village, and the Cockpit and areas of the parkland will host entertainment and workshops for youngsters such as circus skills, pony rides, arts and crafts, an acoustic stage on the village green, plus plenty of street food and craft ales to keep the party going.
Gates will open at 4.00 and tickets are £45, and £22.50 for 5-16 year olds, with under 5s free. Parking is limited so fayre-goers are being encouraged to use public transport, park and ride and car share.
A 16th century manor house, St Fagans Castle and gardens was donated to the people of Wales by the Earl of Plymouth in 1946, and over the years it has become a centre for education, enlightenment and entertainment. Though there have been numerous events staged there over the years, this is the first large scale music event to be held at the attraction.
Pablo Janczur again: “The team at St Fagans have been really receptive to our idea, and like us, are excited to make it work. We want to create a country fayre atmosphere with main stage music at its core. We’re confident the people of Cardiff and surrounding areas will embrace the concept and have a great summer day out.”
St Fagan’s National History Museum contains over forty original buildings from different historical periods, including farmhouses, a school, a chapel, Workmen's Institute, row of terraced cottages and a working blacksmiths – all lovingly relocated from across Wales, and recently revamped with the addition of new features.
